Photoshop Camera (PsC)
stands out from the
crowd due to its focus on
creating eye–catching
content for your social media feed.
Many of the iPhone images that we
produce end up on Instagram or
Twitter, and thanks to PsC’s
expanding collection of lenses (or
Ľlters) you can produce striking
results. For example, if you want to
show oļ a holiday location and the
weather isn’t up to scratch, then
a quick tap on the Blue Sky lens
enables you to replace an overcast
sky with a summery blue one,
complete with ľuļy clouds. And you
can swipe through a selection of
diļerent skies before you snap the
shot. Once an eļect has been added
you can view the shot in PsC Studio
(the app’s version of the Camera
Roll) and Ľne–tune the size and
position of the composited sky by

swiping and pinching. You
can also import images from
your iPhone’s Camera Roll
and apply a range of Ľltered
eļects to them, making PsC
a fun and eļective post–
production tool as well as
a creative camera app.
Many of the app’s lenses
are a bit gimmicky, such as
the Pop Art collection that
adds garish textures and Roy
Lichtenstein–inspired comic
book captions to a portrait’s
background. More usefully if
you use an older iPhone such
as an iPhone 6s, you can
now add background blur
(bokeh) eļects such as
those created by the iPhone 7 Plus
onwards. These blur eļects produce
a DSLR camera–style shallow depth
of Ľeld blur that complements a
portrait. You can modify various
bokeh properties, as well as add
ľattering facial lighting eļects that
create a more youthful complexion
— creating a prettier proĽle picture
for your social media feed.
It can be frustrating when you
share a shot to a social media site
and it becomes cropped, losing the
key area of interest. For example, on
Twitter pics are shown in landscape,
so followers need to tap the thumb
to view a portrait–oriented shot.
When you tap PsC’s Share icon you
can choose crop presets such as

Instagram portrait or a widescreen
TV’s 16:9, then re-compose the
content within the new frame.
A $1.99 IAP gets you 20 GB of
Creative Cloud storage for your
shots. Though if you already pay for
iCloud storage then it’s unecessary.
THE BOTTOM LINE. Gimmicky
photo app, but it adds creative power
to your iPhone. GEORGE CAIRNS
