MOODISTORY MOOD TRACKER, DIARY
Slick, robust mood tracker app.
Automatic analysis of mood data.
No native iPad display support.
No automatic cloud backup.
EXCELLENT

Anyone born before
1970 will remember the
mood ring, a decorative
thermometer worn on
your Ľnger that changed color based
on your temperature. An instant fad,
the liquid crystal capsule was one
of the Ľrst “smart” wearables.
Of course, mental health is more
complicated than a simple gimmick.
Our moods can change hour to hour
based on many factors. For those
who want to track such emotional
ľuctuations, there’s an iPhone app
that does just that.
Combining a mood tracker with
daily journaling, Moodistory has
been designed to create new entries
quickly, with minimal eļort.
Although you can elaborate with
notes, a few simple taps on the
screen is all that’s required to add
entries together with date, time, and
current location.

When Ľrst launched, the
app walks new users through
its intuitive user interface.
Select your current mood
from a scale of one to six
— three positive and three
negative, but you can
conĽgure more or fewer
choices in settings, along
with color themes; by
default, the scale ranges
from red to green. Next, tap
icons that represent recent
activities from categories
like Food, Fun, Health,
Work, and more. These
included options are
comprehensive, but you can
add, edit, or delete event lists
and categories to Ľt your lifestyle.
As you continue logging,
Moodistory’s calendar displays a
“heat map” to provide an insight
into your emotional health over a
period of time. The app automatically
ranks this data into Top Positive and
Top Negative Events, so you can see
at a glance which mood factors to
avoid in the future.
Rather than nag about logging
entries at inconvenient times like
other tracking apps, you’re in total
control — set up as many reminders
as you’d like or ignore them entirely.
We were impressed by the wide
range of customization (right down
to the color of the app icon), all with
no subscription required.

Version 1.9.6 adds support for
Apple Watch — log entries by
swiping across the screen or turning
the digital crown. The Watch app is
also useful for checking recent
activity while on the go or taking
a peek at the previous 14 days.
THE BOTTOM LINE. Tracking your
mood has never been so easy, nor so
much fun. JR BOOKWALTER
