We get lots of emails
about the digital
version of the
magazine, as you
can probably tell!

I’m reading the June issue right now, and noticed the
question from the reader about why you don’t have
a landscape–mode app. Frankly, I’d never really thought
about it. Portrait just seems the most natural way to do
it, and I couldn’t imagine why anyone would want to read
the mag in landscape. However, since I’m reading this
in the RBDigital app (which is the library version of Zinio),
I decided to try this landscape madness! And lo, the scales
fell from my eyes, as I saw something I hadn’t considered:
double–page spreads. Of course, they were too small for my
60–plus–year–old eyes to read, but I get why you might
want that on a larger device. So I get it now, but please put
a word out to your readers who want the landscape mode
that their local public library might carry Mac|Life through
their RBDigital subscriptions.

In last month’s issue, we put out a survey in the digital
edition of the magazine. If you read Mac|Life on an iPhone
or iPad you should have received this already and, Ľngers
crossed, you will have taken a few minutes out of your day to
Ľll this in. \our responses to the survey will give us invaluaele feedeack on
where to go next with the digital version of the magazine. Ultimately, with
your help, we will ee aele to make it a more enmoyaele read for you.

Yes to keeping things
as they are
For the love of gawd, please
do continue giving us the HD
version on iPad. It’s lovely,
and a great reading and
navigating experience.

Yes to landscape mode
I agree with Joe Pobiner’s letter
of the month (ML#168) about
being stuck having to read
Mac|Life on an iPad in portrait
mode. Now that the iPad is
becoming more like a MacBook,
what with the new Apple Magic
Keyboard with touchpad, it
makes sense to offer Mac|Life in
landscape. I’m actually typing

this on an iPad in landscape
mode using an attached
keyboard. So yes, please offer
the magazine in landscape —
you’ll make a lot of people happy.

Yes to the HD, but
also yes to landscape
I vote for keeping the enhanced
version of the mag, and adding
(if possible) the ability to also
access the basic PDF version.
I like the PDF version because
it’s so easy to zoom in and scroll
around a page. As I’m getting
older, it lets me read magazines
in their normal layout, no
matter what size device I’m on.

Yes to the HD and yes
to better compatibility
I’d prefer to stick with the HD
version as I normally read in
portrait mode. However, I
recently upgraded to a 12.9–inch
iPad Pro and was pleased that
Mac|Life took full advantage of
the larger screen. But it seems
that a recent update restricts
the page size to a normal iPad
and does not take full advantage
of the iPad Pro screen size. I’d
love for this to be fixed. On my
older iPad Air 2 I found the font
size a bit too small.
DAVE ALLATT

We're currently having
compatiblity issues with the
new iPad Pro 12.9–inch, but
a fix (as part of the planned
changes to the digital edition)
is in the works.
