APS-C, full frame and
medium format,
something none of the
other camera
manufacturers can say. I
use a KP and I love it. The
image quality is excellent
as is the in-body image
stabilisation and weather
sealing. It may be quirky
(interchangeable grips)
but contains much that
you only see in cameras
at a much higher price
point! I am not saying
Pentax will live forever, but
it still exists in spite of a
lack of support, and is far
more than ‘a once-
prestigious brand that now
exists in name only’. On
another note, the latest
two issues of AP have
been superb despite the
lockdown and restrictions.
Well done, it is much
appreciated.

Buying Guide change
As a regular subscriber to
AP, I read with interest the
recent articles about
reducing our impact as
photographers on the
environment. I was
surprised therefore to
notice that the once
monthly (or four-weekly)
Buying Guide has become
a regularly weekly feature
alternating one week for
cameras, the next lenses.
I wonder about the impact
that these additional
pages have on the
environment. Surely there
are not that many new
lenses or cameras being
launched that would justify
a weekly rather than
monthly update?
Andy Fry

We have taken our
once-a-month buying
guide and broken it down
into smaller sections,
which we now run every
week. This has in
fact reduced our paper
consumption by 192
pages per year, since we
don’t have to increase the
magazine pagination to
http://www.kelsey.co.uk accommodate it. Instead,

Use Vivaldi
You can upload to
Instagram from your
computer using the Vivaldi
web browser, and as far
as Facebook compression
goes, if you size your
image to either 2048px or
1024px along the longest
border you do seem to get
better-quality reproduction.
However a major gripe
of mine with Facebook is
that it strips out the image
metadata, which can
contain all sorts of
information including
copyright notices and
contact information. Since
this takes up an
absolutely minimal

amount of data I do nd
this somewhat suspicious
and unnecessary (as if
Facebook needed any
more conspiracy
theories...).

The wrath of the
Pentaxian
Towards the end of your
excellent article on the
demise of Olympus (What
went wrong for Olympus?),
you aimed a barb in the
direction of Pentax,
suggesting that, like
Grundig, it exists in name
only. This is far from
accurate. Just because a

company belongs to
another doesn’t mean it
loses its identity. (See
Rolls-Royce, Ferrari, Jaguar
etc.). In the past ve years
Pentax has released six
camera bodies (the K-S2,
K-1, K-3 II, K-70, KP and
K-1 II) and would have
released a seventh if not
for the global pandemic.
Each camera has a unique
character and is full of
innovation and whilst they
are not universally
celebrated, they have a
strong following (see
Pentax forums, Kai Wong,
Mattias Burling). Pentax
exists in its own right. Its
current range covers
