West Yorkshire Spinners’ The Croft yarn has
become a firm favourite with British knitters.
The pure Shetland wool was originally available
as an aran-weight, but now the yarn firm has
introduced a DK-weight option.
The Croft DK has 12 solid shades and six
complementary tweed colours, and has the
soft, warm feel we know from the aran yarn.
Accompanying the new yarn launch is a
collection of patterns for men and women,
designed by Rosee Woodland and Sarah
Hatton. The projects have a timeless feel, and
include colourwork yoked sweaters, a wrap
with gansey-inspired textures, and cabled
cardigans and jumpers. The new yarn and
patterns will be available from 17th August.

DK weight added

to The Croft range On my needles

At the start of lockdown, I decided to
work through my (many) unfinished
knitting projects, and this ‘Mahy’ shawl
had been on my needles since 2016.
I had to rip back the whole of the lace
border, because I discovered a mistake
and I couldn’t work out where I’d gone
wrong, but once I got going again there
was no stopping me - it was just so
entertaining!
Karie Westermann’s design uses a
traditional hap construction, with lace
motifs inspired by the flora and culture
of New Zealand. My shawl is knitted in
Blacker Yarns’ St Kilda, a laceweight,
undyed blend of rare Boreray wool
blended with Soay and Shetland wool.
It has a delicate woolliness, and was
a delight to work with.
