AKIHABARA DISTRICT
TOKYO, JAPAN
Tokyo’s Akihabara district is one of the most iconic places in the world for
technology and anime/manga culture. The neon-lit area is jam-packed with
shopping, arcades, otaku stores (“otaku” is a Japanese term that describes
obsessive super-nerds), and electronics. Akihabara looks like a vision of the
future and is the source of inspiration for countless movies, manga, and graphic
novels. Visit a multi-story arcade (which is still very much a thing in Japan) and
try your hand at one of the thousands of video games. Then check out the
famous store Super Potato, which has new and used electronics and video
games, including some you’re guaranteed never to have seen before.

VR CAFES
SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA
Technology is everywhere in South Korea, and nowhere is virtual reality more
ubiquitous than in Seoul. Multiple cafes have sprung up around the city where
anyone can play cutting-edge virtual-reality games. And you won’t just be
standing in a room with a headset on; many of the cafes and complexes strap
players into swings, boats, hang-gliders, or devices that respond to their
movements in the game, making the experience that much more realistic.

You’ll encounter a range of prices and a variety of experiences, so do some
