ALL-NEW KEYBOARD DESIGN
As well as new processors, the new MacBook
Pro machines include new internal updates
to enhance the MacBook experience. Whilst
Apple kept the news quiet, The Loop reported
that the new models would feature an all-new
keyboard design, following almost two years of
criticism from users around the world. Indeed,
Apple has faced scrutiny over an update to its
butterfly keyboard design introduced back
in 2017, where a “small number” of MacBook
models were affected. Users have reported that

manner when compared with other
keyboards. In a press release, Apple said that
the vast majority of its customers are happy
with the keyboard, but that they “take customer
complaints seriously, and work to fix any issues.”
Alongside the launch of the new MacBook Pro,
Apple introduced its third-generation butterfly
keyboard, using new materials to significantly
cut down on issues like double key presses and
missed key presses. Apple has remained coy
on the improvements, but a teardown from
iFixIt revealed ‘subtle changes’ to the silicone
membrane covering the keyboard switches.
Where the 2018 MacBook Pro featured ‘semi-
opaque’ membrane that felt like silicone, the
new model is cleaner and smoother to touch,
using polyamide rather than polyacetylene. As
