Vicky Cole,

Nairobi, Kenya

Jambo, dear cross

stitchers.

I think cross

stitching is good for

the soul! When

things are difficult,it is wonderful to

turn to the work in progress and feel as

though you are making something

beautiful. My husband had an accident

a few weeks ago, and had to spend

some time in hospital, and then was at

homeconvalescing, so I’ve had plenty

of time to stitch while sitting with him.

I have almost finished this Maia design

of elephantsat sunset, I just have to

outline the smaller elephant.I think it

will be a present for my son, who is now

at universityin the UK, to remind him of

Africa. He is coming to visit us soon,

I am so excited. It will be wonderful to

see him and he is bringing threads and

fabric I’ve ordered for a big piece I want

to start on.

Current work in progress is this

lovely star-shaped hardanger mat. The

gold thread is Anchor Metallic, and it

has a wonderful glow in sunlight or

halogen lighting. I do enjoy doing

hardanger, although the cutting is

always slightly nerve racking.

In previous pieces I mentioned the

exhibition that the Kenya Embroiderers’

Guild held jointly with the Kenya Quilt

Guild. I popped in to take some photos.

There was some really beautiful work

on display. Well, that’s all for now, ‘Til

nexttime, kwaheri.

cherished for life; and it also makes a

fantastic anniversary reminder. Jokes

aside, I hope the customised portraits

will serve as a reminderto the couples

of their love for each other.

Having said that, let us not make the

mistake of thinking that this is the only

type of love worth celebrating. Love

manifestsitself in many forms – it could

be love for your families, parents and

babies, sibling love, love for your

teachers and even your pet(s) and

home town! I hope the love is evidently

felt in the pieces that I have crafted.

Last, but not least,I would like to

celebrate my love for stitching. It has

helped to keep me sane while my

cheekygirl threatens to drive me up the

wall and it has given me a deepsense

of satisfaction to see each piece

through to completion and the

appreciation in the recipients’ eyes.
