It was amazing to observe grey herons hunting for fish in
Hungary earlier this year. They are often seen standing
stock-still in the shallow waters, waiting for the fish that
flit about below the surface. After a few days, I found that
each heron seemed to have its own territory on the water- always coming back to the same spot. The herons that
did not have their own territories would try to invade
those of other herons. This photo was taken during one
such attempt, as both birds flew up into the air.
