Showroom Tips

1

Play Favorites It’s OK if you
don’t know the diff erence between
traditional and transitional. Bring in
Lighting magazine (mark your favorite
fi xtures) or create a Pinterest board to help
your consultant understand your style.

2

Show & Tell Bring in room
photos and dimensions, including
ceiling height. If you’re building or
remodeling, bring blueprints, fl oor
plans, and photos of your planned furniture.

3

Don’t Be Shy—Ask
Wondering how many kitchen
lights you need? Not sure about
lumens? ALA-trained consultants
have the answers. “We welcome a thousand
questions,” says Tim Stumm, creative director
at Z-Lite Lighting. “We know you don’t buy
lighting every day, and we know your fears.
We will make it a pleasant experience.”

4

Do It Now You don’t have to
work with an architect or interior
designer to explore a showroom. A
lighting expert at a showroom can
help you replace a single fi xture.

5

Keep an Open Mind The
fi xtures you think you want or need
may change as you learn more at
the showroom. “Be open to that
learning process,” Stumm says.

QUESTIONS FOR A SHOWROOM CONSULTANTTurn the tables and interview your
lighting consultant during a showroom visit. “We welcome it,” says Tim Stumm, creative director at Z-Lite
Lighting. Not sure what to ask? Stumm off ers these questions to get started: How long have you
been in business? Do you carry all price points? How long have you been a lighting
consultant? Will you be there when my lighting is installed? Why should I buy from
you and not the internet? Why is your price diff erent from what I found online?
