6 / WOMEN’S HEALTH JUNE 20 19

I firmly believe in the

magic of mornings.

Although I groan at my early alarm
ju st l i ke ever yone el se (r ig ht?!), I’m
always better for it when I begin

my day before the rest of the city is
awake. My ideal morning includes
coffee, a bit of work to get a jump on

the day, a feel-good sweat, and some
qu a l it y (chaot ic!) t i me w it h my
three young children and husband.

According to my parents, I wasn’t
always like this. My dad and I still

laugh about how the only way he
could convince me to jog or play
tennis with him before 8 a.m. in

h ig h scho ol wa s i f he prom i se d a
very large latte afterward. (Clearly
coffee has always been nonnego-

tiable.) I know I’m not alone: We’re
not all born “morning people,” but
if you’re reading this magazine,

then I have a very good feeling you
wouldn’t mind being one.
That’s why this issue is our ode

to the a.m., packed with ideas and
tips to help you rise and shine.

There’s a full menu of speedy and

nutritious breakfast ideas on page
140, a guide to amazing morning
sex (trust us) on page 110, and the

inspiring morning routines of
10 power women on page 113 (plus
mine, at left!).

And since we’re officially on
the cusp of summer, we’ve also got
you covered with the season’s

best swimsuits. They’re all WH
editor–approved...which means
they aren’t just cute, they’ll also

stand up to a game of beach volley-
ba l l or whatever p o ol side ac t iv it y
makes you happy. To feel your fit-

test and strongest in those killer
bikinis and one-pieces, please
check out our kettlebell workout

(page 122)—it was designed specifi-
cally to stoke your metabolism.
Wit h su m mer ’s longer d ay s a nd

brighter mornings, it’s the perfect
time to embrace the a.m. Because,

as we say around the WH office,
how you start your day is how you
live your day. Which is why, even if

I’m groaning, I’ll always say, “Good
morning!” And really, truly mean it.

How I Own My

Morning...

At the office with
another coffee, caffeinating
and getting sh*t done

At bus stop
brushing my
daughter
Lucy’s hair,
because I
never seem
to get it done
before then

Breakfast
(usually a
peanut butter
and banana
smoothie) with
the kiddos and
my husband,
Matt, before
rushing out
the door

Head outside
for a workout
(usually a run
or strength
training at the
local YMCA)

I sip a mug of coffee
(with a splash of whole milk)
while checking my Slack,
Instagram, email, etc.

My alarm goes off 5:17 A.M.

7:30 A.M.

Sweaty, happy, home 7:00 A.M.
