7 Dynamic lock
Dynamic lock works with any paired Bluetooth device and
automatically locks your PC when that particular device is out of
range – step away from your PC with your phone in your pocket,
for example, and Dynamic lock will activate. In ‘Sign-in options’,
tick the box labelled ‘Allow Windows to lock your device
automatically when you’re away’ to set it up.

8 Select a Bluetooth device
If you’ve paired a device you want to use with Dynamic
lock, you can select it from the list that appears. Otherwise, click
‘Bluetooth & other devices’ and follow the instructions to pair a
new device. Once a connection’s been established, there are no
further settings to configure, and you can walk away from your
PC knowing it will lock when your device goes out of range. Q

Windows Hello and PINs
A password isn’t the only way you can secure your account.
If your PC has a compatible fingerprint reader or a webcam, you
can log in using Windows Hello. A PIN works in much the same
way as a password but it is tied to your PC rather than your user
account. To add this option, click the Add button under PIN,
confirm your password and then choose the PIN you want to use.

3 Automatic password entry
While securing your account with a password is advisable, it
can also be a pain – it can slow you down when you need to get
on with things, for instance. With this in mind, you might want to
consider configuring Windows to automatically sign you into your
account on startup. To do this, press [Win] + [R] to call up the Run
dialog. Type netplwiz and press [Enter].

6
Sign in with a picture
You can also use a picture to secure your account – you
unlock your PC by drawing a pattern on the image with your
finger if you have a touchscreen laptop or monitor, or you can use
your mouse. In ‘Sign-in options’, click Add under Picture Password,
confirm your password and click ‘Select picture’ before choosing
an image. Draw and confirm the gestures you would like to use.

4 Remove user account password requirement
When the User Accounts dialog appears, untick the box
labelled ‘Users must enter a username and password to use this
computer’ and click Apply. In the ‘Sign in automatically’ dialog,
enter your username, type and confirm your password, then click
OK followed by OK. The next time you restart or switch on your
PC, you should be automatically signed into your account.
