move the folder to the new drive. Return
to the Account tab and click ‘Add an
account’. Sign back in but be sure to
click ‘Change location’ to point towards
the folder in its new location. OneDrive
should detect the existing files, allowing
you to confirm your choice. Once set up,
click ‘Choose folders’ if you’re only
syncing a subset of your OneDrive
folders to your PC, otherwise leave
OneDrive to compare your local folder
with the online version to verify
everything’s in sync.
A similar issue may occur if you’re
transitioning to the new OneNote app
(as installed through the Microsoft
Store) from the old OneNote 2013 or
2016 desktop application. The new app
requires your notebook be stored on
OneDrive, so to avoid recreating it
from scratch, open it one last time in
OneNote 2013 or 2016, then choose File

Share. Choose ‘Add a Place’ to sign
into your OneDrive account, select
where you want the notebook to reside
(and change its name if necessary)
before clicking Move Notebook. As soon
as its new location appears in the list,
select it and wait for the confirmatory
“Your notebook is now syncing to the

new location” message to confirm
that it’s working correctly.
Note: if your original notebook
resided in any of your user desktop,
Pictures or Documents folders, and
you’ve opted to protect those folders
via the Auto-save tab under OneDrive
settings, be sure to move that copy of
your notebook to another location once
the above process has completed.

Fix other problems
You’ll be pleased to learn there’s plenty
of online help available if you run into

problems with parts of OneDrive. For
example, if you’re attempting to use the
‘Fetch files on your PC’ feature, but your
PC doesn’t show up under PCs in the
OneDrive web interface, verify the ‘Let
me use OneDrive to fetch...’ setting is
ticked under OneDrive’s settings, then
quit the OneDrive app (right-click its
Taskbar notification area icon and
choose ‘Close OneDrive’).

Now open the Registry Editor and
navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\
SOFTWARE\Microsoft\OneDrive\.
Expand the OneDrive key in the
left-hand pane, then right-click the
Claims subkey and choose Delete. Close
the Registry Editor, restart OneDrive and
your PC should now appear in the list.
This fix is just one of many that have
been conveniently compiled at the
official OneDrive help centre – head
over to https://support.office.com/
en-gb/onedrive and click Troubleshoot
for a list of common issues. Take the
time to examine the ‘Fixes or
workarounds for recent issues in
OneDrive’ link, which is regularly
updated with the latest known
problems along with how to
resolve or mitigate them. Q

“The same feature can be accessed

manually – enabling you to roll back

all the files in your OneDrive folder”

you need to fix the issue.
