➔1969 SHELBY GT500
This car was a demonstrator at the A.O. Smith corporate headquarters in Milwaukee,
where my father was a safety engineer. He purchased it from the company in 1970
and used it as his daily driver for years, which included the Wisconsin snow and salt.
In 1983, my mother asked me to come get the car because she was afraid my dad
would try to drive it—he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, which eventually
took his life. I brought the car to Great Falls, MT, where I was stationed at Malmstrom
Air Force Base and the car began its 30 years of storage. With help from Summit
Racing, the car has been subjected to a Pro Touring–type build. And, yes, I’ve taken
crap for doing this to a real Shelby. It’s not done, but gettin’ there!

SURVEILLANCE
You guys must have my phone
tapped: Your article on the 3G alter-
nator was right on time. I have a
1967 Mustang that I put a 351w
into. It has Trick Flow heads, an
Air Gap, MSD 6AL, and an electrical
fan, and the old alternator wasn’t
doing the job. I wanted to upgrade,
and lo and behold, I got the new
magazine in the mail and there was
the article I needed. Then today I
get my new magazine with a
nitrous write-up, and that’s exactly
what I was getting ready to install.

➔CAREFREE CADILLAC
Seen here are two lovely products of 1960:
my wife, Traci, and a Cadillac Series 62
“flat-top” sedan. It’s lowered—the car, not
my wife—on shorter, stiffer springs. It has
modified trailing arms, old gas shocks, a
stock 390 V8, MSD ignition, dual exhaust,
turbo mufflers with a crossover (by
Goofy’s in Eugene, OR), and it handles
better than it has a right to! It’s happy
in the interstate environment, where it
surprises Kias and SUVs and other
unworthies. We love Car Craft.

➔SHOP GOAT
Most people have a shop dog. Well,
I have a shop pygmy goat, and his
name is “Boots.” He is very loyal,
but the only problem is he will carry
your tools off if you don’t pick them
up. His favorite: screwdrivers.
