Add the add-on
Open a browser pointing to your
openHAB host on port 8080 – it’ll be the
same IP address as mentioned above.
Navigate from Add-ons to the Misc section
and look for Eclipse IoT Market. Install it by
clicking the button. For clarity, installing
anything from external sources should
always be done with caution.
Install the Hive binding
Locate Chris Foot’s ‘Hive from
BritishGas Binding’ add-on and install it.
In order to make it work you’ll need your
Hive account details and an API key. This
may require registration at the official site
https://my.hivehome.com/login. Once
you’ve logged in you can generate an API
key and add these into the appropriate
place for the add-on.
Add some more add-ons
While you’re at it, have a look at the
myriad other openHAB add-ons on offer.
Note that add-ons are occasionally lost
when the system updates, so on occasion
you’ll need to reinstall them. The docs
clearly say this is going to change in the
future. There’s an openHAB Android app
available on Google Play and F-Droid.
Mycroft, meet openHAB
Add the openHAB skill from the
Mycroft Marketplace at https://market.
mycroft.ai/skills. You’ll find it in the IoT
section along with bindings for Google AIY,
Home Assistant and other platforms. If
you’re interested in learning more about
what Hive can do, check out the official
reference for Hive’s REST API at https://
developers.hive.com/reference.
Browse the Eclipse market
With the Eclipse market integration
installed, several new add-ons appear in
the Bindings section of openHAB’s add-
ons catalogue. To view them it’s best to
change to a denser layout (rather than a
long list) using the widget at the top-right.
Ty p e market into the search box to see
Eclipse market entries only.
Crank up the heat
For now, only changing the
thermostat is supported. If you run into
difficulties check out the slightly older
project by Rob Kenny at http://bit.ly/
lxf249hive. This aims to do more, but the
project has been dormant since January
- Still, there are some useful scripts
that might help you better understand the
Hive interface.

CONNECT MYCROFT TOHIVE USING OPENH
See the walkthrough below to find out how to
integrate a Hive smart(ish) thermostat with openHAB
and Mycroft. This is a bit of a roundabout process since
it involves first adding the third-party Eclipse Market
repository via an openHAB addon, and then adding the
Hive bindings from there. We’re using Chris Foot’s
experimental binding to do this, which you will find at
http://bit.ly/lxf29chris.
This is what the initial openHAB
setup screen looks like. We
recommend the Standard
package for most users.
