Calvin Tomkins (“The Adventures of
Pipi,” p. 42), a staff writer who covers art
and culture for the magazine, published
“The Lives of Artists,” a six-volume
collection of his profiles, last year.

Laura Miller (“Labyrinths,” p. 20) wrote
“The Magician’s Book: A Skeptic’s
Adventures in Narnia.” She is a books
and culture columnist at Slate.

Douglas Stuart (Fiction, p. 52) is the
author of “Shuggie Bain.” He is at work
on his second novel, “Loch Awe.”

Diane Seuss (Poem, p. 37), a 2020 Gug-
genheim Fellow, most recently pub-
lished the poetry collection “Still Life
with Two Dead Peacocks and a Girl.”
Her new book, “frank: sonnets,” will
be out in 2021.

Hua Hsu (Books, p. 63), a staff writer,
is the author of “A Floating Chinaman:
Fantasy and Failure Across the Pacific.”

Cora Frazier (Shouts & Murmurs, p. 25)
has written humor pieces for The New
Yorker since 2012.

Jiayang Fan(“Motherland,” p. 32) became
a staff writer in 2016. Her reporting has
appeared in The New Yorker since 2010.

Joshua Yaffa (“Believe It or Not,” p. 26)
is a Moscow correspondent for the
magazine. His book “Between Two Fires:
Truth, Ambition, and Compromise in
Putin’s Russia” came out in January.

of Oxford, has co-written “The Ferrante

Roger Reeves (Poem, p. 48) is the author
of the poetry collection “King Me.”
The recipient of a Whiting Award, he
teaches English at the University of
Texas at Austin.
