BEFOREWHAT YOUâLL NEEDOld dresserBeadboard panelsBalsa wood (available at craftsstores)Silhouette shapes of choiceHigh-quality latex primer and paintClear polyurethane varnishPaintbrushCoarse- and fine-grit sandpaperWood glueDrillTable saw
DIRECTIONS1. Sand dresser with coarse-gritsandpaper and wipe down.Apply primer.
2. Lightly sand primed dresserwith fine-grit sandpaper.Wipe down. Apply 2 coats ofpaint, sanding after each coat. Besure to wipe down dresser aftereach sanding.
3. Measure the front of drawersand cut beadboard panelslengthwise to size.
4. Glue beadboard panels tothe drawers; let dry.
5. Paint dresser knobs asdesired; let dry.
6. Drill holes in beadboardthrough the originalhardware holes on drawers.Attach knobs.
7. Trace silhouettes onto balsawood and cut out. Applyprimer to each shape; let dry.Paint shapes and, when dry, lightlysand edges smooth with fine-gritsandpaper. Wipe down. Applyclear polyurethane varnish as afinal coat; let dry. Glue shapes tobeadboard.Note: âItâs always a great idea tosand down old furniture beforeyou prime it,â says KariAnne.âStart with a coarse 60-gritsandpaper and then use a finergrit for a smooth finish.
