week’sholiday?I suspectI amnotalonein

thebeliefthatbeingonholidaygivesyou

knittingsuper-powersandtheabilityto

knitmore(andfaster)thanyouevercanat

home.Allthoseprojectsthateitherneed

finishingorthatyou’vealwayswantedto

startwillmagicallyfindtheirwayonto– and

o– yourneedlesbeforeyoustartyour

journeyhome.However,it’simportant,of

course,tohavechoiceandtomakesure

thatwedon’trunoutofyarnwithdays

ofpotentialknittingtimeahead,butour

estimatesofhowmuchyarntopackcan

sometimes be a little o, to say the least.

STOWAWAY

I alwaysputmyyarnintomysuitcasebefore

anyclothes,leavingmyselfwiththeworry

thattherewon’tberoomforanyclothes

atall.Thiswouldnotbea problemif allI

intendedtodoonholidaywassitandknit.

However,weusuallychooseplaceswhere

therearethingstoseeanddo,aswellas

timetorestandI’mnotsurethatstringing

alltheballsofyarntogetherintosome kind

of makeshift bikini is the answer.

FEELINGNEEDLED

It’salwaysmoredicultif you’retravelling

byplane;luggagerestrictionsmeanthat

youcan’ttakethebulkofyourstashwith

you(I mightneedtocastonanemergency...

something...andneeda choiceofyarns)

andalthoughUKGovernmentguidelines

nowstatethatknittingneedlesareallowed

onplanes(www.gov.uk/hand-luggage-

restrictions/personal-items),I alwayshold

my breath until safely through security.

on).It doesn’treallymatterif youfindthat,

actually,it doesn’tcomeoutofthecarall

holiday,it’sjustreassuring to know that it’s

to hand if you need it.

CAPSULESTASH

I wishthatsuitcasemanufacturerswould

accommodatecraftersbyinsertingextra

pocketsthatmagicallytransformtheyarn

intotiny,weightlessballssowecanpack

asmuchaswethinkwe’regoingtoneed

withoutcompromisingtherestofour

packing.Now,wouldn’tthatbea grand

idea?Notsomucha capsulewardrobe, but

instead a capsule yarn stash.

PROMISES,PROMISES

I haveonlygoodintentionsofbeingmore

reasonableabouttheamountofyarnand

projectsI needtotakeonholidaythisyear,

butI imaginethatthisnotionwon’tlast

long.Afterall,what’sa holidayif wecannot

participateinmoreoftheactivitiesthatwe

enjoy?Ofcourse,thedierencebeingwith

a glassofsomethingdeliciousandchilled

closetohand.Moveover,suncreamand

flip-flops, I’ve got more yarn to pack.
