yarnaroundthepointandpull
through,slippingthestitch on to
the left-hand needle.
Pushthepointoftheright-hand
needlebetweenthefirstand
secondstitches.Wraptheyarn
anti-clockwisearoundthepoint
of the right-hand needle.
Pulltheloopoutwiththeright-
handneedle,thenslipit overthe
tip of the left-hand needle.
RepeatSteps2 and3 untilyou
havethenumber of stitches you
require.

Makea slipknotandplaceit
ona needle,leavinga longtail.
Thetaillengthdependsonthe
numberofstitchesyouwishto
caston.Trya lengthabout 3
times the width of the project.
Holdthetailinyourlefthand
withyourthumbstickingup.
Makea circleanti-clockwisewith
yourthumb.Youshouldendup
witha cross on the front of your
thumb.
Pushtheneedletipalongthe
outsideofyourthumbsoit
passesthroughtheloop.Wrap
the working yarn as if to knit.
Drawtheyarnthroughthe
thumbloopandthenbetween
thearmsofthecross.Slipyour
thumboutandpulltotightenthe
stitch. Repeat from Step 2.

relativelytauttomaintainan

Bringtheright-handneedle
downthroughtheloop,making
surethatyoucatchtheyarnyou
woundaroundtheneedle.This
createsthestitch.Don’tpullthe
freeyarntoo tightly, let out some
slack.
Pushthepointoftherightneedle
furtherthroughthestitchyou
created,thengentlypulltheright
needleupandtoyourleft,taking
theoriginalloopwithit.You’ve
nowcreatedoneknitstitch.
