erhaps it’s premature to call any plan the defi ning one for the

coming year that hasn’t yet begun. But compare this new

versatile and eye-catching home to recent best-selling designs,

and the call seems quite a bit safer to make.

Consider the exterior: this particular Craftsman-inspired look with

tapered columns and exposed trusses continues to dominate the top of

the charts, while the side-loading garage plays down parking.

Inside, the split-bedroom layout falls in the size sweet spot at 2 , 091

square feet—very close to the 1 , 900 square feet that the National Asso-

ciation of Realtors reports as the typical size of a single-family home

purchased in its “2016 Profile of Buyers and Sellers” (and somewhat
