”It felt like I’d
just read a
Hollywood
film script,”
says David
Bateson, the
actor who
has voiced
Agent 47 in every Hitman game. He’s
celebrating 20 years starring as
videogames’ most famous assassin,
and tells us Hitman 3 will be
something very special.
The actor says of Hitman 3’s
script: “It was so vast, it was so
audacious, demanding, and in-depth.
Bloody hell, it was like Chekhov. The
ambition of the whole script was
vast, it was all-encompassing.
He laughs, and adds, “I nearly
got intimidated.”
As we discuss how IO Interactive
separated from Warner Bros
Entertainment, he explains the move
turned out to be a good one for the
developer. A new branch of the
studio has been set up in Malmö,
Sony has adopted Hitman 3 as a

control of Hitman fully, and do what it
wants with the series.
“There’s some pretty shocking
stuff going on, in a good sense, with
Hitman 3,” teases the actor.

THE MANOR BORN
Bateson has been garotting targets
as Agent 47 since the series began,
and the one time he almost missed
out – for Hitman: Absolution –
protests from fans saw the actor
reinstated. It turned out to be one of
the actor’s favourite entries.
With Bateson on board, then, it
feels proper that Hitman 3 will round
out this current trilogy of games,
and the most recently revealed
mission recalls one of the series’
best-ever stages. Thornbridge
Manor feels like a homage to Hitman:
Contracts’ Beldingford Manor, and
evokes the filmic qualities Bateson
has expressed. It’s a classic murder
mystery weekend where you can put
your detective skills to the test and
do a little dispatching of your own.

HIT ACTOR
“I really like the guy,”
says David Bateson as he
reveals he’s tapped into
his own isolated childhood
to bring an emotional
resonance to Agent 47.
