OBSERVER: SYSTEM REDUX
Up close with PS5’s horror reboot
Babieno explains that we can
expect 4K at 60fps, ray tracing, HDR,
global illumination, new models,
and improved animations from this
next-gen update. He reveals some
of PS5’s new features have enabled
Bloober Team to create new content
for the game. “New SSD load times
have allowed us to create even more
trippy Dream Eater sequences,” says
the developer, adding, “Being able to
shorten load times for levels made
it easier to change the environment
and, by doing so, to play with the
imagination of our players more.”
FEEL LUCKY, PUNK?
The team have created new quests
that dig into the world of “Dark
Cyberpunk”, which, says Babieno, “adds
nearly 25% more to the length of the
original game”. This content, which
includes fresh cases and mechanics
such as stealth for the first time, is
woven into the main game so it feels
part of the original story and world.
Again, PS5’s tech is helping to
enhance the gameplay that matters
in Observer. “With greater control
over the lighting effects, we can use
subliminal cues to tell stories that put
you on the edge of your seat and really
make those super-scary moments
stand out,” Babieno tells us.

“The new DualSense
controller options let you
feel your surroundings,”
says Piotr Babieno.
- MAKES SENSE
The game’s new content has
been created from unused

“THE TEAM HAVE
CREATED NEW
QUESTS THAT DIG
INTO THE WORLD.”
While that cyberpunk game is
grabbing all the headlines, and
nabbed OPM’s cover last issue,
this cult classic is getting a PS5
makeover. New missions, cases,
and gameplay are just the start of
what we can expect from this upgrade to Bloober
Team’s cult horror sleuth-’em-up.
“Cyberpunk stories and worlds have so much
opportunity to tell stories with tiny details,” says
Piotr Babieno, Bloober Team CEO, as we dig into
what’s in Observer: System Redux. Specifically, this
story is about uncovering the secret lives of
murder victims amid the rain-drizzled back
alleys of a bleak future Kraków.
As Daniel Lazarski, a detective in the
Observer police force, you can hack into
people’s minds using the Dream Eater
to solve crimes. You play through the
memories of the deceased to uncover clues
to their killer, and use devices to scan
biological and electronic objects for leads.
Observer is a puzzle-led psychological
horror game where the smallest details
combine to create a world dripping in
darkly intimidating atmosphere, and PS5
will enable the dev to ladle on more detail.
“By harnessing the power of the next
generation of consoles, we can really pack
in those small touches that draw players into a more
immersive experience,” says Babieno. “You could
say new technology helped us more fully realise the
world of Observer in Observer: System Redux.”
