This PS VR game has you

battling foes as a Rune

Knight ‘Sword God’ until,

well, you fall. And then you

start again. It’s a combat-

focussed roguelite that

places you in the neon

fantasy world of Rokar.

There’s a variety of melee

weapons, from scimitars

to maces, which you can

dual-wield. Each one handles

differently and has its own

abilities. Large swings deal

more damage, but you need

to keep your hands close to

parry enemy strikes. Each

time you fall, you can try

again, more powered-up

than before. This could be

one of PS VR’s greats.

Looking like a cross

between Sonic and Klonoa,

this colourful indie is

channelling all the power

of ’90s platformers. To save

her friend Hogo, bunny Kaze

travels through the Crystal

Islands, which sport multiple

elemental biomes (naturally).

Jumping, Kaze can twirl her

ears around in a kind of

spin jump (remind you of

anyone?), and taking a

carrot from Wonder Boy’s

allotment, she can use the

masks of the title to call on

the abilities of a tiger, lizard,

shark, and eagle. We’re

wiping away a tear of

nostalgia with every

spin-jump Kaze performs.

a MOBA? And what if you

didn’t actually have to

control that chess MOBA?

Complete this series of

mental leaps and you

have Auto Chess, by the

developer which popularised

this ‘auto battler’ genre with

the original PC DOTA 2 mod.

The results are akin to a

competitive tower defence

game with a ton of depth.

Each match has you drafting

heroes and putting them

into an arena to try to win a

round, with the loser taking

damage. You then have the

opportunity to adjust and

improve your team to go for

the win, starting fresh with

a new team each match.

Devilishly compelling.

got to be something special

to feel fresh. Luckily, Lemnis

Gate has a 25-second pitch

that might sell you on it.

That’s because 25 seconds

is how long each round in

a match takes as players

battle other in 1v1 and 2v2

arena matches.

Over the course of your

round you get to take an

action, whether that’s

manoeuvring your up-to-

five-strong team, taking

shots at enemies, or setting

up ambushes for later. It’s

all a little mind-bending,

though – with only 25

seconds for each round you

can’t overthink it.

interactive and experimental

experience dedicated to our

shared love of marvelling over digital

recreations of food (something we very

much enjoy doing). Nour boasts over 20

‘vignettes’ with reactive music. What do you

do? Just play with the food! The selection on

offer looks great and even has pancake

wobble as you slap creations together. With

endless toasters and towering burgers,

things promise to get strange too. On PS5

it’ll make use of the DualSense to, for

example, emulate the feel of cutting fruit with

a knife. When you’re done you can snap a

picture and share it with friends.

This Pythonesque comedy point-

and-click adventure is the work of a

UK-based solo developer. The works

of Michelangelo, Bosch, and Rembrandt have

been animated to create chaotic, absurd

situations such as discovering a tall lady is

really three people stacked on top of each

other under a puffy dress. You play as an

unnamed heroine attempting to hunt down

Heavenly Peter, solving puzzles Monkey-

Island-style as you go. Delightfully silly.

We loved the way the

first game in this

series blended

together Tetris and

Puyo Puyo in a way that made

both puzzle formats feel fresh.

This followup adds a world-

hopping adventure mode, and a

Skill Battle mode that allows you to

use special moves and item cards

depending on your character.

In the wake of the

esports-focussed Puyo

Puyo Champions, this

sequel also features

enhanced online

modes to support

league play across its

various modes

(including four-player and

ranked). Versus, Fusion,

Swap, Party, and Big

Bang modes are joined

by Tournament and

Lesson modes for

everyone from the

Puyo-literate to

Tetronomino-newbies.
