es, it’s yet another battle
royale, but it genuinely
brings something new to the
undeniably crowded table. If other
games left you cold, this just might
be the one to get you hot under
the collar. The bright and angular
futuristic city setting immediately
sets Hyper Scape apart, not to
mention the rapid movement and
superhuman double jumps. The
weapon selection is great, and
the ‘hacks’ – cooldown-dependent
abilities enabling you to do things
like summon a wall or teleport a
short distance – introduce a new
level of tactical thinking. Upon
death (in Squads) you become a
ghost, and then it’s a race to the
nearest revive point so you can
get back into the fight. The whole
experience is a fresh, exciting,
hectic new take on the genre.

Against all odds, Ubisoft’s take
on the battle royale genre feels
entirely new, and proves to be
one of the company’s best games
of 2020. Luke Kemp

riginally released on
Nintendo GameCube and
requiring four handheld
consoles to play as intended,
Crystal Chronicles has always
been a niche entry just in terms
of sheer accessibility. Yes, the
Remaster looks gorgeous, has
English voice acting, and new
weapons and bosses – but most
importantly it includes online
multiplayer (though local play is
absent). This makes it much more
convenient to sit down and play.
You can host public or private
games, as well as matchmake –
a welcome addition. Hacking
enemies, combining magic, and
nabbing treasure is fun with pals.
However, campaign progress only
counts for the game host (though
a free lite version of some of the
game makes it easier to do).

A refreshingly focused change
from the Destiny-like models that
proliferate. This is an adventure
you and your friends shouldn’t
miss out on. Oscar Taylor-Kent

A breath of fresh air in the battle-

and changing your outfit’s colour
scheme. (The more stylish add-ons are
locked behind two different kinds of
in-game currency, or you can access
them by levelling up the battle pass.)
You earn Kudos for playing matches but
the shiniest cosmetics generally require
Crowns. You can earn the odd one via
the battle pass but if you’re desperate
for the really pricey bells and whistles,
you’ll need to spend real-world money.
Costumes are split into two halves, so
you have to shell out twice to complete
the look. But having perused the store,
we personally don’t mind rocking the
launch week’s free werewolf costume
for a while yet.
While we are endeared to the cute ‘n’
squishy charms of Fall Guys, the
catwalk isn’t really what it’s all about.
It’s that slapstick spirit of every guy for
themself that keeps us coming back and
earns it our recommendation.

You’d better believe the
hyper – it’s a winner
