The know-how
Questions, answered
Q: Have they added map voting yet?
A: Nope. Looks like they never will.
Q: Surely One In The Chamber is present now?
A: The best COD mode ever, right? The one with
one-hit kills where everybody starts with a pistol
and one bullet, and kills replenish your ammo? It
was rotated in briefly, but then left again. Bonkers.
Q: Do people still bounce up and down at the
start of a match in greeting?
A: Not as much as they used to. We miss it.
Q: Is the game still full of campers?
A: Things are much better now. Although the
behaviour is encouraged by the baffling decision
to include the mounting mechanic, campers are
rare, and often easily dealt with.

IN THE ZONE
Warzone, COD’s take on battle royale, has
proved explosively popular. Season five
sees the addition of Mini Royale, a faster-
paced version with shorter matches and
a higher rate of enemy encounters.
TWICE AS NICE
Akimbo has been added as an unlockable
perk for pistols. While it puts you at a
disadvantage in long-range firefights, it
makes you deadly up close, and rocking two
guns at once will always be cool.
AGENTS OF SHIELD
Impervious to bullets and most explosives,
the riot shield’s great for tackling campers.
Sticking thermite or Semtex to a shield
remains a perfect counter. Explosive
crossbow bolts are another option.

Want a calling card with major bragging rights attached? Look no further
1
If you’re looking for a weapon to
impress people with, it’s hard
to think of a better choice than
the throwing knife. Get a kill from 50
metres away and you can equip this
to make foes fume with envy.
3
From the simplest Mastery
Challenge to the most difficult.
You need to get ten headshots in
one life to rock this calling card. Your
best bet is probably to find a good
sniping spot in Euphrates Bridge.
2
The easiest Mastery Challenge,
you nab this by scoring a kill
with six different types of lethal
equipment in one match. Bounce
between loadouts in a small map
such as Vacant or Shipment to get it.

A few of our favourite post-launch unlockable weapons
Map hysteria
A small selection of the maps added since launch
LIVESTOCK
This season-five addition for Gunfight is a great idea.
A barn with a small perimeter, it’s a small space crammed
full of opportunities for ambushes, sniping, cover, and
quick escapes. No chance to sleep on the job here.
ATLAS SUPERSTORE
Season two brought in this map which, despite the name,
is more of a warehouse than a shop. Plenty of corners to
watch. Be aware of the skylights – aerial killstreaks can
still get you inside if you’re not being careful!
SCRAPYARD
This remake of the Modern Warfare 2 map, brought in as
part of season four, should engorge your nostalgia gland.
Despite some subtle tweaks it’s virtually identical to the
original, so watch for snipers and campers.
PETROV OIL RIG
Also introduced in season five, this is a rabbit warren
of tight corridors connected by open spaces and higher
platforms. Perhaps the most difficult map to learn due to
its intricacy, it’s easy to be taken by surprise here.
ISO SMG
The blisteringly fast rate
of fire cuts down enemies
at close quarters almost
immediately, and gobbles
up ammo at an alarming
rate. Craft your loadout to
increase damage range
and ammo capacity, and
you’ll have a formidable
weapon on your hands.
RENETTI PISTOL
Unremarkable at first, the
main draw of the Renetti is
the three-round burst fire
mod that can be unlocked.
Low recoil means it can
be effective at almost
any range, though it’s a
gun that demands – and
rewards – accuracy.
CROSSBOW
It reloads at a glacial pace
until you unlock Sleight
Of Hand, but stick with
it. It’s a great weapon to
show off with, and the gas,
thermite, and explosive
bolts you’ll eventually
unlock open up a new
world of opportunities.
KALI STICKS
The Kali sticks require
two hits for a kill. This
fact alone makes it a bit
of a cheeky humiliation
weapon, and who can
resist that? The click-clack
sound it makes when
you’re whacking an enemy
to death is extremely
satisfying too.
