RALEIGH: AT&T
AT&T absolutely dominated our results in the Triangle, where we collected tests
LQ$SH[&KDSHO+LOO'XUKDP+ROO\6SULQJVDQG5DOHLJK:LWK*DOPRVW
entirely absent in the metro area, the competition was down to who had the best
4G network, and AT&T’s speeds and reliability were far and beyond the best of
the bunch.


The results we saw on AT&T’s 4G network at several locations around the metro
area were far faster than on the carrier’s 5G network in most places. In Chapel
Hill, we saw 242Mbps down on AT&T, and in south Durham, we saw 247Mbps
down. Speeds like that really raise the bar for what 5G needs to achieve.


Raleigh-Durham area people shouldn’t be too worried about the lack of 5G right
now. Verizon’s short-distance millimeter-wave 5G isn’t a great approach for this
sprawling metro area, and AT&T’s low-band 5G, as we saw in many cities, might
