SAN DIEGO: VERIZON WIRELESS
Verizon combined good 4G and great 5G performance to be the fastest network
we tested in San Diego. Even on 4G, Verizon had the most reliable network in
the area, although not with the highest peak speeds. But that little boost of 5G

highest speed anywhere in the nation on Verizon 5G in San Diego, scoring
2Gbps on First Avenue in Banker’s Hill. We also saw some (less impressive)
Verizon 5G in Mission Valley, North Park, and the middle of National City.

boost over 4G. That wasn’t anywhere near the performance we got with
Verizon’s 5G, but of course T-Mobile’s 5G is available much more broadly.
As in other cities, we didn’t see any advantage for AT&T 5G over 4G in San
Diego. Our 5G phone didn’t show a citywide lift over our 4G AT&T phone, and
the 5G tests were slower than 4G tests at locations that had both networks.
