The good news for Everton
fans is that, looking back over
James Rodriguez’s career, his
best campaigns have come as
the star player at sides just below the
elite: 26 goals in two seasons at Porto,
nine goals and12 assists in a year at
Monaco, and, most famously, his Golden
Boot-winning performance at the 2014
World Cup for Colombia.
The exception to that rule –13 goals
and13 assists in his debut La Liga
campaign at Real Madrid – came under
the management of the Toffees’ current
boss, Carlo Ancelotti. The £20m move
might just be a match made in heaven.
The early signs have been promising:
Rodriguez created five chances on his
Premier League debut, a1-0 win at
Tottenham, and his ability to dictate
attacks alongside the more mobile
Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin
is a promising combination.
At the age of 29, he is running out of
time to hit the heights that he reached
in Brazil during the summer of 2014.
But if he can help bring some success
back to Goodison Park, he will be a
hero for the Everton supporters.
