Diogo COSTA

Porto
Outstanding
20-year-old
homegrown talent,
who has stepped up
in Porto’s pecking
order after the
retirement of Iker
Casillas. Costa has
made excellent
progress in recent
years, twice a
European champion

  • once with Portugal
    U17s and again with
    theU19s–anda
    UEFA Youth League
    winner with Porto
    in 2018-19.

Atletico Madrid
The 24-year-old
goalkeeper recently
left Lokomotiva
Zagreb for Spanish
heavyweights
Atletico, and has
more than a passing
resemblance to
their former No.1
Thibaut Courtois.
Tall, agile and a
reflex save-master,
he began his
career at Hajduk
Split, and recently
earned his first
call-up to the senior
Croatia squad.

Ivo GRBIC

Sporting
Still only 21 years old, the graduate of
Sporting’s ever-productive youth system
enjoyed an outstanding breakthrough
campaign in 2019-20, successfully
supplanting Renan Ribeiro at the top
of the goalkeeping pecking order. The
likes of Barcelona, Milan, Internazionale
and Ajax have him in their sights,
subject to a€45m release clause.

Athletic Bilbao
The Basque Country has a rich
tradition of churning out top-ranking
goalkeepers and the 23-year-old very
much comes into that category.Just
beginning his third season in the Bilbao
first team, he was arguably the club’s
best performer last term and is in line
to become the11th Athletic keeper
to win full honours for Spain.

Bayer Leverkusen
Finn Lukas Hradecky, Leverkusen’s first-
choice keeper, will have to be on his guard
now that the Germany U21 custodian has
arrived on the BayArena scene, recruited
from third division Kaiserslautern for an
eminently affordable€2m. The 21-year-
old played over 50 games in two years
after serving his apprenticeship at Mainz.

Brest
Being one of the smallest goalkeepers
in Ligue1 has proved no barrier to his
development. Very calm, good on the
ball and exemplary in his aerial timing.
A France U21 international, Larsonneur
joined Brest aged nine and has been their
No.1 since 2017-18, missing just three
league games in the last three seasons.

Real Madrid
After loans with Leganes, Valladolid and
Oviedo, the precocious Ukrainian was
recently recalled to Bernabeu HQ, where
he will serve this term as Thibaut Courtois’
understudy. A world champion with his
country’s Under-20s in 2019, he almost
single-handedly kept Oviedo away from
second division relegation last season.
