INEOS GRENADIER
Around £40,000, ineos.com

When the original Land Rover Defender ceased
production in 2016, Ineos majority owner Sir
Jim Ratcliffe offered to buy the designs and
tooling. Jaguar Land Rover declined, so
Ratcliffe roped in superyacht designer Toby
Ecuyer to design his own Defender spiritual
successor named after his favourite pub. Thus
we have the Ineos Grenadier, which very
obviously carries more than a little Land Rover
DNA. Powered by a modular three-litre BMW
engine, the Grenadier also borrows design cues
from military vehicles and tractors, and it
should be as comfortable on the road as it is in
the mud. You can’t have one yet – the interior
isn’t finished, and Ineos has only announced the
Grenadier now to avoid it having to stay under
wraps as it performs a million-mile test – but
the first units should arrive in late 2021.

T3 SAYS: Land Rover acolytes, rejoice.

BOWERS & WILKINS
SIGNATURE 702
£4,499, bowerswilkins.com

B&W doesn’t just chuck around the ‘Signature’
designation. That’s saved for its most special
kit, and that’s just what the Signature 702s are.
Sporting engineering pulled from the already
brilliant 700 and 800 ranges, each 702
Signature gets a carbon dome tweeter inside a
solid aluminium housing mounted on top,
B&W’s fancy flexible continuum cone composite
midrange driver, and three aerofoil-profile bass
cones for big performance. They also enjoy
newly upgraded capacitors and a stunning real
wood veneer which has apparently been given
a highly excessive nine coats of finish. They’re
not in any way cheap, and neither are the 705
Signature standmounters released alongside
them, but this is glorious speaker excess that’s
almost within the reach of mere mortals.

T3 SAYS: A thing of beauty is a joy forever.
