GaGu will make that choice
down the line, like he usually
does, and he’ll be damned if
the answer doesn’t end up being
‘both’. Guru isn’t even a massive
gamer, but a recent upgrade to his
(ahem) work PC convinced him that
modern AAA titles hold more merit
than his pixel-happy brain would
previously have admitted.
One console might have slightly
better specs than the other, but who
cares? The proof will be in the tasty
games pudding. It looks like Sony’s
eking out the win on upcoming titles
(and a cheaper digital-only version
gives it an advantage) but never
count sneaky ol’ Microsoft out.

What do I need

to start making

music?

How can I

improve my

back strength?

Guru, choose:

PS5 or Xbox

Series X?

Nothing. Not one thing. Go
clonk a rock with a stick. No
stick-rock? Make clip-clop
sounds with your mouth. Did our
ancestors have Arturia Minibrutes
or Korg Prologues? They did not,
and they got along just fine.
Silliness aside, GaGu assumes you
have a computer or a phone. Please
don’t think that the thing stopping
you from making music is a lack of
hardware; while it’s nice to have a
room full of keys and buttons and
knobs, the software is out there, in
many cases it’s free, and the only
thing stopping you from getting
stuck in is the mistaken view that
you need something more.

This is one of those areas
where leaning on
technology seems
tempting but probably isn’t the way
to go. Stick-on posture trainers like
the Upright Go (£70) will nudge
you when you enter Slouchtown,
but they won’t solve the problem.
What will, over time, is the right
exercise program. Target your core
for the lower back, perhaps a
mixture of Russian twists, back
bridges, planks and crunches; for
the upper back, sets of rows and
pull-ups are helpful, perhaps using
dumbells (GaGu loves Bowflex’s
SelectTech weights, at £399) or
resistance bands (Topelek’s £26 set
will do). Don’t overdo it: GaGu is
legally not a doctor.

Play on your
console all day
and night and
you’ll end up
with muscles
like these. Maybe

THINK ABOUT THINGS
If you’ve somehow missed the
sweet, funny, funky song that
would have walked Eurovision
2020 if it had happened, seek
out Daði Freyr’s music video on
YouTube. It’s a peach.

EUROVISION AGAIN
Pop fever still not sated after
this year’s cancellation? Guru’s
nights have been filled with
old concerts livestreamed on
YouTube, a fan-led effort which
will leave many online forever.

THE STORY OF FIRE SAGA
GaGu will admit to having not
seen Will Ferrell’s Iceland-in-
Eurovision Netflix movie yet
but there’s little that could go
wrong with it, right? Yes? GaGu
has his fingers tightly crossed.
