Lucid Air

from $80,000 / lucidmotors.com

IN THE AIR

TO KNIGHT

McLaren’s mighty 720S, which by
the way is twice the price. It has the
equivalent of an insane 1080bhp
under the bonnet, taking you from
0-62mph in 2.5 seconds and on
to a top speed of 168mph, making
Doc and Marty’s 88mph DeLorean
look like a Lada in comparison.

OFrom here to Air
To hit those magic numbers you’ll
need the $169,000 Dream Edition,
but don’t go thinking the ‘basic’
$80,000 model is in any way
sluggish, because it’s still packing
620bhp. The impressive stats
continue when it comes to range
and charging, with the Air capable
of up to 517 miles – enough to get

from London to Frankfurt – and a
claim that it’s the fastest-charging
electric vehicle ever, fuelling up for
300 miles in less than half an hour.

OWithout due Air and attention
As for its self-driving abilities, the
Lucid Air has something called
a ‘DreamDrive’ system combining
32 sensors (covering ultrasonic,
radar and lidar) working in tandem
with geofenced HD mapping for
level 2 and level 3 autonomous
driving – which is one area where
Tesla’s latest firmware update
might just give it the edge. Topping
off the KITT-like tech, inside you’ll
find a 34in curved 5K display plus
Alexa voice assistance.

If Netflix ever wanted to do

a Knight Rider remake, or

someone were to bankroll
a fourth instalment of Back

to the Future (see p98), the

all-electric Lucid Air might
be the perfect star car...

because this advanced

Tesla S rival is so quick it’s
practically travelling in time.

OThe tortoise and the Air
Lucid says the Air can cover the
quarter-mile dash in 9.9 seconds
without so much as breaking
a sweat. That’s faster than any
Tesla, outpaces Porsche’s Taycan
Turbo S and even matches

IT CAN TAKE

YOU FROM

0-62MPH IN

2.5 SECONDS

AND ON TO

A TOP SPEED

OF 168MPH
