TESTED GOPRO HERO9 BLACK

Q Easy meet
If the pandemic has taught
us anything, it’s to wash
our hands... and ditch our
crappy laptop webcams.
This GoPro can’t keep your
fingers clean, but it can
double up as a smart
webcam when hooked
up to your PC via USB-C.

Q Zippy zippy shake
GoPro has switched out
its packaging from hard
plastic to a fabric zip
pouch, perfect for carrying
your cam for years to
come. The packaging will
also fit accessories and
mounts for eco-friendly
convenience.

Q Hero of the store
The GoPro app for Android
and iOS can take a while
to connect, but when
it’s fired up you can edit
videos and back up your
footage to the cloud (with
a GoPro subscription). It
can also turn your phone
into a remote viewfinder.

Q Hitchin’ a wide
The Hero9 Black has a
seriously wide-angle lens,
but it isn’t Hero8 Black
wide. To get even more in
frame, switch the kit lens
out for a Max Lens Mod.
This shoots with a 155 ̊
field of view at up to 2.7K
resolution (at 60fps).

There’s more to the Hero9 Black than a little box
that shoots you falling off your skateboard in 5K...

Video 5K @ 30fps, 4K @ 60fps Stills 20MP
Displays 2.27in rear touchscreen, 1.37in
front Connectivity Wi-Fi, Bluetooth
Battery 1720mAh Waterproofing 10m
Dimensions 71x55x34mm, 158g

STUFF SAYS +++++
This is the pinnacle of
action cam excellence...
but if you don’t need 5K,
last year’s model remains
a strong option

Tech specs

Despite being bulkier than the Hero8 Black, prone
to overheating when recording 5K and in need of a
Max Lens Mod to match or better the old model’s
ultra-wide video, the Hero9 Black is still a winner.
Improved image detail, battery performance and
features all come together for one of the most versatile bits
of video and photo kit we’ve used. @Basil_Knows

Straight down the 9
If you’ve had a few too many and
can’t see straight, put your phone
away and start recording on
the Hero9 Black. With in-body
horizon levelling, your woozy
sways will look like beautifully
anchored pans – a feature the
Hero8 Black only supported
when paired with the app.

9 of the times
Thanks to a new GoPro feature
called HindSight, the Hero9 Black
can step back in time: hit record
and it captures everything that
happened in the five seconds
prior. So as long it’s been turned
on and facing the action, missing
gif-worthy moments could be a
thing of the past.

9 cooler
For smoother
footage, flick down
from 5K at 30fps to 4K
at 60fps – fast-moving
scenes will look all
the better for it.
