GROUP TEST SMARTWATCHES

What’s the story?
In the space of just 10 months,
Huawei has launched the GT 2,
the GT 2e and now the GT 2
Pro. This latest model doesn’t
bring any great innovations,
but does build on the success
of its predecessors with
a better build and updated
sensors – and it runs LiteOS,
meaning this wearable is a
proper smartwatch rather
than a glorified tracker.
The design is minimal and
sophisticated, and a canny
mix of ceramic and titanium
makes it tough but light on
the wrist.

Is it any good?
The GT 2 Pro is available in two
styles, the grey Classic and
the black Sport, both of which
measure 46mm – the main
difference being a leather
or rubber strap. Both types
get a lovely crisp OLED screen
that’s sizzlingly bright and
detailed, showing small text
clearly... although we’d expect
better responsiveness from
a device of this calibre.
Huawei boasts that this
is its first watch to support
tracking for over 100 different
activities – and the latest
additions are, as you might

expect, on the obscure side.
They include a driving range
mode for tracking golf swing
metrics with your heart rate,
and cross-country skiing.
Nevertheless, tracking is
more accurate than ever and
data is displayed effectively
on the screen.
The chief downside with
the GT 2 Pro is the lack of
support for third-party apps.
This was the case with its
previous wearables so it’s
disappointing Huawei hasn’t
addressed this, especially
since it means you can’t
directly link to services like

Strava. It’s this that makes us
think the Watch GT 2 Pro is
perhaps better suited to those
who work out casually, rather
than fitness nuts.
The ever-so-slightly
sluggish touchscreen and
shortage of apps mean the
GT 2 Pro does suffer from
a few pain points, but all in all
it’s a decent performer for the
price, with admirable health
and fitness smarts.
