The open-plan kitchen in the oldest part
of the house is the family hub. A five-metre
island of engineered quartz dominates the
room. Vaulted ceiling beams lend a dramatic
sense of space to the kitchen units designed
by David Craigie. Floor-to-ceiling glass looks
through to the cobblestone courtyard and
frames a Fatboy RockCoco chandelier hanging
next to a vintage games locker from Retrouvius.

deckchairs, garden gnomes), which contrast
with statement lighting from Kartell, Tom
Dixon and Lee Broom.
Items are fastidiously labelled. “I have four

The latter is stored in monogrammed LL Bean
totes in the boot-room cupboard, where the
children’s birthdates are handpainted on the
inside of the door.
Charlotte has plans for a jetty for the lake
and a bar for the dining room. “Will keeps
telling people we’ve finished now, but I think
to myself, ‘Oh no we haven’t.’ ” n
