Step 13: On the same layer, down near the foreground, there’s a patch in the pave-
ment along one of the main curves. This is the type of detail that can really help your
photo manipulation appear convincing. Use the Lasso tool again to select just the
patched pavement area and press Command-J (PC: Ctrl-J) to copy it to a new layer
named “Pavement Patch.”
Move this up the layer stack to be just above the Ribbon layer. Use Free Transform
to move, scale, and rotate the patch to fit along the curve of the road as it lifts
off the ground. Press Option-Command-G (PC: Alt-Ctrl-G) to clip the patch to the
Ribbon layer. Then use a layer mask to blend the patch into the road so there are
no visible hard edges.
Step 14: Return to the original stock image of the landscape and zoom in on the road
in the distance. Notice the small, shiny object, presumably a vehicle travelling along
the road. Use the Lasso tool again to create a selection around the vehicle and press
Command-C (PC: Ctrl-C) to copy those pixels. Go back to the Ribbon Road document
and paste the car in as a new layer. Position it as needed and use the Eraser to soften
the edges if they’re visible. If you’re using the low-res preview image, you may need
to use Free Transform to make the car a little larger so you can see it.
