When Arsene Wenger arrived at Arsenal in 1996, he
was infamously greeted with the headline, ‘Arsene
who?’ By the time he bid Gunners adieu, 22 years and
10 major trophies later, there wasn’t a person in the
land unaware of his impact on English football.
In this issue, we sit down with the Frenchman to reflect
on a remarkable tenure – featuring many of his incredible
highs, of course, but also plenty of wistful regrets. From
tweaking training to landing Doubles and masterminding
Invincibles, Wenger left a lasting legacy beyond Arsenal.
Elsewhere, we relive Gazza’s chaotic 39 days in charge of
Kettering, an in-form Neil Ruddock provides his definitive
list of hard men, and Juninho regales tales of lighting up
Middlesbrough – 25 years after he first joined (feel old?).
Coventry fans have had it miserable over the last two
decades since relegation from the top flight,
but the Sky Blues are on the rise – if still
without a home of their own. We retrace
their gruelling slog.
Plus, Real Madrid star Luka Modric
answers your posers, Peter Schmeichel
takes us back through a sterling career
of glory and goals, and we celebrate
a WSL revolution amid record moves.
