LET’S TALK ABOUT
‘DOWN THERE’
Over 21,000 women are
diagnosed with a form of
gynaecological cancer in the
UK each year. Yet despite this
frightening statistic, many of
us remain unaware of the
warning signs to look out
for, or feel uncomfortable
talking openly about our
bodies. The Eve Appeal
is trying to change this
with its annual campaign,
Get Lippy, which sees
celebrity ambassadors
helping to banish taboos
and talk frankly about
female anatomy.
Last month, celebrities
including Dr Rupy Aujla
and Michelle Heaton joined
the campaign, encouraging
women and men to speak
about gynaecological
wellbeing without
embarrassment. The public
were encouraged to blow a
kiss and use the #GetLippy
hashtag on social media, or
to wear a bright lipstick and
donate £5 to the charity.
It’s hoped that increased
awareness will lead to earlier
diagnosis of gynaecological
cancers in women across the
UK. Visit eveappeal.org.uk
for more information.

BOOST MOOD THROUGH DIET
New research confirms that eating a balanced, nutritious diet is good for
our mental wellbeing. In a study of almost a quarter of a million adults living
in California, the researchers found that lower intakes of fruit, veg and water,
and higher intakes of sugary drinks, fries, fast food, cakes, biscuits and ice
cream were associated with psychological distress such as feeling extremely
sad, nervous, restless, hopeless or worthless, all of which predict poorer
mental health. This research builds on studies that link a lack of fruit and
veg, higher intakes of
fat and sugar, and lower
intakes of omega-3 fats
and certain vitamins
and minerals with
conditions such as
depression. Following
the advice in HFG
will help ensure you
get the nutrients you
need to stay physically
and mentally strong.
