NFL BETTOR’S GUIDE

ACTION

SUNDAY
BENGALS (+3) over Browns:
Expect Cleveland QB Baker May-
field to rebound from that disas-
ter against the Steelers, but so
long as Cincinnati’s ace rookie
QB, Joe Burrow, can continue to

impress with help from the likes
of top-drawer young wideouts
Tyler Boyd and Tee Higgins, the
home side should be in this
throughout.
Bills (+12) over JETS: Gang
Green’s seasonal inability to stay
within striking distance of league
opposition in anything resem-
bling respectable league stan-

dards is a cause of deep concern.
Still, any nod to the home side
would be more a hope than a con-
viction.
WASHINGTON (-1) over
Cowboys: We couldn’t quite ra-
tionalize why the Cowboys
reached for coach Mike
McCarthy during their quest to
replace Jason Garrett, but there
you are. The Dallas roster is ap-
parently superior — but in games
that figure close, we’re happy to
fade a hornets’ nest of dissention.
FALCONS (-2.5) over Lions:
Detroit’s Matthew Stafford and
Atlanta’s Matt Ryan have won a
total of three games between
them this season, frequently get-
ting off to respectable starts, but
having issues finishing off poten-
tial victims. The Lions have un-
derperformed against the handi-
cap in the past five meetings in
this series.
Panthers (+7.5) over SAINTS:

New Orleans is yielding an aver-
age of more than 30 points per
game. Former Saints employee
Teddy Bridgewater continues to
impress for Carolina, and re-

mains effective despite the ab-
sence of stalwart Panthers RB
Christian McCaffrey. Matt Rhule
can flat-coach. Close!
HOUSTON (+3.5) over Pack-
ers: Points-a-plenty anticipated.
We’re compelled to expect Aaron
Rodgers will rebound off a disas-
trous start versus the Buccaneers.
That noted, we’re reluctant to lay
more than a field goal against
multitalented QB Deshaun Wat-
son and the Texans’ offense.
TITANS (- 1.5) over Steelers:
Two rock-solid AFC sides with
spotless records clash, and we’re
compelled to take the home-field
’dog, quarterbacked by Ryan Tan-
nehill, coached by clever Mike
Vrabel and powered by the re-
lentless Derrick Henry.
49ers (+1.5) over PATRIOTS:
Though the Pats appear to have
broadly recovered from earlier
pesky COVID-19 issues, must re-
spect the Niners — and can’t

deny QB Jimmy Garoppolo would
likely be delighted to make New
England sorry they traded him to
San Fran.
Chiefs (-9.5) over BRONCOS:
Kansas City continues to enjoy
significant advantages against the
Broncos — who managed to take
out the Pats with just six field
goals. Drew Lock is underrated at
QB for Denver, but this isn’t an
ideal matchup for the home side.
CHARGERS (-7.5) over Jag-
uars: This could be an awkward
time for Jags QB Gardner Min-
shew to be facing any “fish or cut
bait” ultimatums from the Jags’
brain trust, since the Bolts are the
primary AFC entity that consist-
ently seems equipped to throw
this foe into fits of frustration.
Buccaneers (-3.5) over Raid-
ers: Give Las Vegas high marks
for a monumental pre-bye win
over the Chiefs at Arrowhead.
Factor in potential pronounced

Burrow & boys can hang around vs.
