CHINESE DRAGON 3
Chinese New Year, China’s
most important festival, is
celebrated in late January or
early February. The festival
lasts for several days and is
marked by spectacular
processions. Displays of
dancing dragons pass
through the streets, featuring
huge colourful dragon
costumes such as this.
4 JERUSALEM, ISRAEL
The historic city of Jerusalem is
sacred to the Jews, Christians,
and Muslims, reflecting major
divisions inside Israel. For Jews
the Western Wall (seen here) is
the most sacred site, while the
golden Dome of the Rock, also
shown, is part of a Muslim shrine.
