1 TROPICAL ISLAND, TONGA
Thousands of tiny tropical islands lie in the Pacific Ocean, circled by
the coral reefs that grow off-shore. Many islands are covered in
coconut trees that thrive throughout the region in spite of the poor
soil and a lack of fresh water. Their fruits provide islanders with
food and coconut milk, and husks to make rope and matting.

SOUTH ISLAND,
NEW ZEALAND 3
This lush, empty landscape is
typical of the northern tip of
New Zealand’s South Island. The
country as a whole is sparsely
populated and its unspoilt
scenery attracts many tourists.
