FILET STITCH PATTERNS


Dermot Filet Stitch


Filet in its natural simplicity is symmetrical and mathematical
and appeals to the engineer side of all of us.


Ch a multiple of 16 sts plus 3.


Row 1 (RS): Dc in 4th ch from hk, dc in next 7 ch, [ch 1, sk next
ch, dc in next ch] 4 times, dc in next 8 ch, [ch 1, sk next ch, dc
in next ch] 4 times; rep from
across to end, turn.


Row 2: Ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 1), [dc in next dc, ch 1] 3 times,
dc in next 8 dc, [dc in next dc, ch 1] 4 times; rep from to last
9 sts, dc in ea st across, turn.


Row 3: Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc
in next 8 dc, [ch 1, dc in next
dc] 4 times; rep from
across to
end, turn.


Row 4: Rep row 3.


Rows 5 and 6: Rep rows 2
and 3.


Row 7: Rep row 3.


Rep rows 2–7 to desired
length.

TIP


Filet patterns are made from double crochet stitches
and chain spaces. The smaller the number of chains,
the taller the rectangular voids will appear, and the
more chains, the wider the void will be. You can
make up any pattern with graph paper: color in the
spaces you want to fill in completely with double
crochets, and leave the spaces open where you will
just chain.
