Using chain spaces as guidelines can make for a great slip
stitch embroidery pattern. Here the spaces make a cable-
like fabric.
Ch a multiple of 8 sts plus 1.
Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch, sc in next ch, ch 1, sk 1 ch,
sc in next 2 ch, ch 1, sk 1 ch, sc in next 4 ch; rep from
across to last 6 ch, ch 1, sk 1 ch, sc in next 2 ch, ch 1, sk
1 ch, sc in last 2 ch, turn.
Rows 2 and 3: Ch 1, sc in 1st 2 sc, [ch 1, sk ch-1 sp, sc
in next 4 sc] twice; rep from across to last 2 sc, sc in
last 2 sc, turn.
Row 4: Ch 1, sc in 1st 2 sc, sc in next ch-1 sp, ch 2, sk 2
sc, sc in next ch-1 sp, sc in next 4 sc; rep from across
to last 2 sc, sc in last 2 sc, turn.
Row 5: Ch 1, sc in 1st 3 sc, ch 2, sk ch-sp, sc in next 6
sc; rep from across to last 3 sc, sc in last 3 sc, turn.
Row 6: Ch 1, sc in 1st 2 sc, ch 1, sk 1 sc, 2 sc in next
ch-2 sp, ch 1, sk 1 sc, sc in next 4 sc; rep from across to
last 2 sc, sc in last 2 sc, turn.
Rows 7–9: Rep row 2.
Rep rows 2–9 to desired length.
Join new color to foundation row, sl st up fabric rows in
each ch-sp by inserting the hk from the front of the fabric
