Tunisian Simple Stitch

Referred to as Tss for short, this stitch is the basis for all Tunisian
stitch patterns. Used alone, it makes for a great fabric to embellish
with embroidery or cross stitches in the vertical bar.

Tunisian Simple Stitch (Tss): Insert hk, from right to left, into front
vert bar of next st and pull up a lp.

Ch any number of sts.

Row 1 (RS) Fwd: Pull up lp in 2nd ch from hk and ea ch across. Rtn:
Yo, pull through 1 lp on hk, yo, pull through 2 lps on hk; rep from
to end.

Row 2 Fwd: (Lp on hk counts as 1st st.) Tss across row. Rtn: Yo, pull through 1 lp on hk,
yo, pull through 2 lps on hk; rep from to end.

Rep row 2 to desired length.

Last row: Tss in next st and pull through lp on hk; rep from to end, fasten off.

TIP

Unlike typical crochet projects, the recommended
hook size on the yarn ball band will be too small
for Tunisian crochet, which generally makes a
dense fabric. When you use a hook that is sized for
the yarn, it will make an incredibly dense fabric.
To start your swatch, try a hook that is two sizes
larger and decide if you like the resulting fabric.
