Basketweave Stitch
This basketweave stitch greatly mimics knitting with the
blocks of changing stitches.
Ch a multiple of 10 sts plus 2.
Row 1 (RS) Fwd: Pull up lp in 2nd ch from hk and ea ch
across. Rtn: Yo, pull through 1 lp on hk, *yo, pull through
2 lps on hk; rep from * to end.
Row 2 Fwd: (Lp on hk counts as 1 st.) *Tss in next 5 sts,
Tps in next 5 sts; rep from * across to last st, Tss in last st.
Rtn: Work off lps as normal.
Rows 3 and 4: Rep row 2 twice.

Crossed Simple Stitch
This pretty crisscross stitch pattern looks fantastic as a background
to afghan projects.
Ch an even number of sts.
Row 1 (RS) Fwd: Pull up lp in 2nd ch from hk and ea ch across.
Rtn: Yo, pull through 1 lp on hk, *yo, pull through 2 lps on hk; rep
from * to end.
Row 2 Fwd: (Lp on hk counts as 1st st.) *Sk next st, Tss in next st,
Tss in skipped st and pull up a lp; rep from * across to last st, Tss in
last st. Rtn: Yo, pull through 1 lp on hk, *yo, pull through 2 lps on
hk; rep from * to end.
Row 3 Fwd: (Lp on hk counts as 1st st.) Tss in next st, *sk next st,
Tss in next st, Tss in skipped st and pull up a lp; rep from * across
to last 2 sts, Tss in last 2 sts. Rtn: Yo, pull through 1 lp on hk, *yo,
pull through 2 lps on hk; rep from * to end.
Rep rows 2 and 3 to desired length.
Last row: *Sk next st, Tss in next st and pull through lp on hk, Tss
in skipped st, and pull through lp on hk; rep from * across to last
