Cordon Stitch


This textured stitch pattern with long double crochet stitches makes
for great accessories such as scarves and mittens.


Tunisian Double Crochet (Tdc): Yo, insert hk, from right to left,
into front vert bar of next st, yo and pull lp through st, yo and pull
through 2 lps, leaving last lp on hk.


Ch a multiple of 3 sts plus 2.


Row 1 (RS) Fwd: Pull up lp in 2nd ch from hk and ea ch across. Rtn:
Yo, pull through 1 lp on hk, yo, pull through 2 lps on hk; rep from
to end.


Row 2 Fwd: Tss in ea st across. Rtn: Work off lps as normal.


Row 3 Fwd: (Lp on hk counts as 1 st.) Tss in next st, Tdc in next st
2 rows below, Tss in next st; rep from
across to last st, Tss in last
st. Rtn: Work off lps as normal.


Row 4 Fwd: (Lp on hk counts as 1 st.) Tss in next 2 sts, Tdc in next
st 2 rows below; rep from
across to last st, Tss in last st. Rtn: Work
off lps as normal.


Row 5 Fwd: (Lp on hk counts as 1 st.) Tdc in next st 2 rows below,
Tss in next 2 sts; rep from
across to last st, Tss in last st. Rtn:
Work off lps as normal.


Rep rows 3–5 to desired length.


Last row: Tss in next st and pull through lp on hk; rep from
across, fasten off.

TIP


In Tunisian crochet you often use double and treble
crochet in a number of rows below the row you are
working in. To make even stitches, when pulling up
a loop in the stitch indicated, pull up the loop
even with the row you are working in. When com-
plete, the stitch will extend to the height of the
row and not pucker the rows together.
