Starburst Stitch
Double crochet clusters dominate this stitch pattern,
which makes for great afghans.
Tunisian Double Crochet (Tdc): Yo, insert hk, from right
to left, into front vert bar of indicated st, yo and pull lp
through st, yo and pull through 2 lps.
Starburst: Tdc in st 2 sts to the right and 2 rows below,
Tdc in st 1 st to the right and 3 rows below, Tdc in st 4
rows below, Tdc in st 1 st to the left and 3 rows below,
Tdc in st 2 sts to the left and 2 rows below, yo and pull
through 5 lps on hk.
Ch a multiple of 10 sts plus 2.
Row 1 (RS) Fwd: Pull up lp in 2nd ch from hk and ea ch
across. Rtn: Yo, pull through 1 lp on hk, yo, pull through
2 lps on hk; rep from to end.
Rows 2–4 Fwd: Tss in ea st across. Rtn: Work off lps as
normal.
Row 5 Fwd: (Lp on hk counts as 1 st.) Tss in next 7 sts,
starburst, sk st behind starburst, Tss in next 2 sts; rep
from across to last st, Tss in last st. Rtn: Work off lps as
normal.
Rows 6–8 Fwd: Tss in ea st across. Rtn: Work off lps as
normal.
Row 9 Fwd: (Lp on hk counts as 1 st.) Tss in next 2 sts,
starburst, sk st behind starburst, Tss in next 7 sts; rep
from across to last st, Tss in last st. Rtn: Work off lps as
normal.
Rep rows 2–9 to desired length.
Last row: Tss in next st, and pull through lp on hk; rep
from to end, fasten off.
