Surrey Snowflake

The crossed double crochets in the snowflake add just a touch of
texture to this classical design.


Crossed Double Crochet (crossed dc): Sk next 2 sc, dc in next sc,
ch 3, dc in prev 3rd sc (sk same 2 sc backward).


Ch 7, sl st to 1st ch to form a ring.


Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 1, 12 sc in ring, sl st to 1st sc, do not turn.


Rnd 2: Ch 5 (counts as dc, ch-2 sp), dc in next sc, ch 2; rep from
around, sl st to 3rd ch of t-ch, do not turn—12 dc.


Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc on top of t-ch, 2 sc in ch-2 sp, sc in next dc; rep
from
around, sl st to 1st sc, do not turn—36 sc.


Rnd 4: Ch 6 (counts as dc, ch-3 sp), dc in prev 3rd sc (sk prev 2 sc),
[ch 2, crossed dc] 11 times, ch 2, sl st to 3rd ch of t-ch, do not
turn—12 crossed dc.


Rnd 5: Ch 1, [2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc] in ch-3 sp, 2 sc in next ch-2 sp, [sc,
(ch 3, hdc) 3 times, ch 3, sc] in next ch-3 sp, 2 sc in next ch-2 sp;
rep from
around, sl st to 1st sc, fasten off—18 hdc.
