CREATE PROFILES FOR


SYNCHRONISATION


If you don’twantpeople to upload certain
filetypes or files above acertain size, you can
create Sync Profiles. Go to Settings in the
Synology Drive Console, and then click
Settings. Under User Sync Profiles, click
Create. Here, you need to give your profile
aname, then youcan choosethe maximum
file sizethatcan be uploaded, andyou can
choosetofilter which files can be
synchronised by type. Forexample, you
can stop all music files.
When you’ve set your limits, click the
Applied user tab,thenselect theusers that
the profile will applyto. All the users that
you selectwillthen havethe restrictions
applied to them.This canbeauseful way
of stopping yourNAS from gettingfilled
up by large files, saving space for smaller
documents only.

TESTINGTHE SYSTEM


Youcan nowtest the systemtosee if it works.
Theeasiest waytodothis is by using the web
interface.Log outasadministrator from the
Synology web interface.Onthe loginscreen,
log in as one of the users that you created.
If youdidn’t give the user any specific
application privileges, then you’ll log straight
into SynologyDrive;ifthe user is allowed to
use other applications, you’ll need to select
Synology Drive from the menu.
Once logged in, you’ll seeaDropbox-like
web interface. My Drive has your personal
files andfolders,and Team Folder has a
shared folder.You candragand drop files
and folders to upload them or create new

folders using the linksabove.Youcan
right-click any fileorfolder and use the
sharing options to sharewithaspecific
person(use the Invitee list to type in the
names of the Synology users you want to
share with) or create aPubliclink.

So far,sogood, but at the moment all we
haveisaweb interface for accessing files over
the local network.Whatweneed to do now is
makethe system accessible over theinternet.
To do this,you need to log back into your
Synology NASasanadministrator.Open
Control Panel, and selectQuickConnect.

QuickConnect is Synology’ssimple wayof
connecting remote devices.Ifyou don’tuse
this serviceyou’ll need to fiddle around with
portforwarding settings anduse adynamic
DNSservice; QuickConnect is far easier.
Select theEnable QuickConnect box,
then click thelinktolog in withorcreatea
Synology account. Once you’relogged in,
youcan enter your choice of aQuickConnect
ID.You then end up with aURL thatyou can
use, such ashttp://QuickConnect.to/
shoppermag.ThisURL is the one you use
to access your computer when you’reout.
Youcan try it out on amobile device: turn
offWi-Fi,then enterthe QuickConnect
address into abrowser window and you’ll
be taken to your NAS’s login page. If you
do this from aremote PC,you’llget intothe
webfile browser,asabove.
