Drama: Blue Thunder
Radio 4, 2.15pm
This intimate drama from
Padraic Walsh, right, about
lives spinning out of control
in small-town Ireland won
rave reviews when it was
staged in London last year.
The premise is simple: it’s
the middle of the night, and
Brian and his two adult
sons are holed up together
in the minibus he drives for
a living. Ray is just back from
Zurich, where he works for
a bank; Dara is seeking
revenge on his ex-girlfriend.

They all have relationship
issues, but they lack the
emotional wherewithal to
deal with them. So there’s
no escape when the home
truths start flying.
Debra Craine
